SEC Announces Regulation S-P Webinar for Large Firms

## Securities and Exchange Commission Announces Compliance Outreach Series on New Regulation S-P Rules

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has scheduled a three-part compliance outreach series designed to clarify the implications of the recently finalized 2024 amendments to Regulation S-P, which governs the protection of customer data.

This initiative is set to begin with a webinar aimed specifically at **large firms**, slated for Thursday, September 25th, running from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET. Subsequent sessions, tailored for **transfer agents** and **smaller entities**, will be officially announced in due course.

Each specialized outreach event is specifically calibrated for the respective type of registrant. The sessions will be scheduled according to and align with the corresponding compliance deadlines established within the updated Regulation S-P mandates.

Expert staff drawn from the Divisions of Examinations, Investment Management, and Trading and Markets are set to lead these discussions. They will provide a detailed overview of the new compliance obligations under Regulation S-P, offer insight into what firms can anticipate when engaging with an exam team, and dedicate time for open Q&A sessions to resolve outstanding regulatory uncertainties.

Addressing the necessity of this guidance, Keith Cassidy, the Acting Director for the Division of Examinations, acknowledged the dual benefit these new data safeguards offer to both investors and regulated entities. “While these enhancements are crucial for further securing consumers' private information, we recognize that implementation may introduce compliance hurdles for firms,” he remarked. Cassidy stressed the proactive stance of the Division, stating their goal is "to help firms achieve a clear comprehension of the updated Regulation S-P obligations so we can collectively advance the mutually beneficial objective of strengthening investor data protection."

Although attendance is not mandatory, the SEC strongly encourages interested parties to pre-register and submit questions ahead of the scheduled date. On September 25th, the live viewing link for the initial webinar will be accessible via the official www.sec.gov website. Full details regarding the entire series, including session agendas and confirmed speakers, will be published on the dedicated Reg S-P Compliance Outreach webpage.
